Recently at the Shop: We had the pleasure recently of framing a beautiful oil-on-canvas painting of mom and baby, from her accomplished and loving artist father, Peruvian artist and sculptor, Julio Cesar Fernández, Lima, Peru. Fernandez has 30 years of experience and particularly enjoys portraits and still life. His art is heavily influenced by the works of William-Adolphe Bouguereau (30 November 1825 – 19 August 1905), a French academic painter known for realistic genre paintings and modern interpretations of classical subjects. In our lovely composition, the canvas arrived ready to stretch. The frame design included a simple warm silver inner frame, hand-rubbed for a more authentic finish, complete with a black inner lip to help set off the composition. This was placed within a more intricate outer frame crafted with nods toward Spanish design which often feature dramatic gilt and sculptural carvings.
